Patrick Berthoud to discuss super-high-performance digital cesium technology for ePRTC synchronization

Presentation will reveal ultimate timing solution for accuracy, scale and extended holdover

  • Speakers: Patrick Berthoud, chief scientist, time and frequency, Oscilloquartz, ADVA
  • Topics: Super-high-performance cesium clock for ePRTC telecom networks
  • When: Wednesday, November 6, 12:20 p.m.
  • Where: International Timing & Sync Forum (ITSF), Hilton Brighton Metropole, Brighton, UK

Accurate timing from GNSS sources is essential to meet the strict synchronization requirements of mission-critical networks as well as LTE-A and 5G applications. But long GNSS disruptions cause severe network outages and so network operators must move away from relying on GNSS alone.

In this talk, Patrick Berthoud will discuss the need for enhanced primary reference time clocks (ePRTCs), which mitigate against GNSS dependency while providing higher performance levels than standard PRTC systems. He will explain how new ultra-high-performance cesium clock technology can enable ePRTC solutions to hold time accurately for at least 14 days, ensuring guaranteed time service performance during GNSS outages, and deliver time to within just 30ns.
