As the era of 5G dawns, network operators face fundamental synchronization challenges. They need to find a way to support next-generation services with new levels of precision, stability and assurance. But, for many years to come, they will also continue to require traditional synchronization supply unit (SSU) / timing signal generator (TSG) architecture for mission-critical time-division multiplexing (TDM) applications.
In this presentation, Chuck Perry will discuss the concept of building integrated timing supply (BITS) and how maintaining existing synchronization infrastructure has created difficulties for this approach. He will discuss the modern timing technologies not supported by SSU/TSGs and outline the urgent need for core clocks capable of supporting both legacy and all new sync technologies for packet networks in a common shelf.
