AEROTHAI boosts GNSS resilience for national air traffic control timing with Adtran and NEC

News summary:

  • AEROTHAI needed precise, resilient synchronization to modernize air traffic control and protect against GNSS disruptions
  • NEC supplied Adtran’s compact, multi‑source Oscilloquartz timing platform with GNSS protection for AEROTHAI’s network
  • Solution improves safety, efficiency and continuity, supporting compliance with international aviation standards and future growth

Adtran today announced that Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd. (AEROTHAI), Thailand’s state enterprise for air traffic control and aeronautical communication, has strengthened national air traffic control timing by deploying its OSA 5412 solution, supplied by NEC. The upgrade improves synchronization accuracy across mission-critical systems, limits dependence on GNSS and helps ensure uninterrupted service as traffic volumes increase. By modernizing its timing infrastructure with a compact, multi-source architecture and in-service assurance, AEROTHAI is enhancing operational efficiency and creating a scalable foundation for future aviation requirements that aligns with industry standards and enables long-term growth.

“Safe, efficient air traffic operations depend on timing that’s accurate, stable and secure, making synchronization the backbone of modern air traffic management,” said Stuart Broome, GM of EMEA and APAC sales at Adtran. “Our OSA 5412 provides AEROTHAI with scalable multi-source synchronization that minimizes GNSS exposure and streamlines operations. With integrated assurance and aviation-grade safeguards, the solution supports uninterrupted service as traffic grows, giving controllers consistent, dependable timing. This deployment helps Thailand modernize critical infrastructure with technology that strengthens safety, improves efficiency and sets a clear path for expansion.”

Adtran’s OSA 5412 is a compact, multi-source synchronization solution that delivers precise, reliable timing at the network edge. It provides AEROTHAI with high-capacity PTP and NTP with hardware timestamping on 1Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s interfaces, integrated GNSS with jamming and spoofing detection, and Syncjack™ in-service assurance for real-time performance visibility. The technology supports a zero-trust architecture with multiple complementary PNT (cPNT) timing sources – alternative terrestrial and network‑based inputs that back up GNSS – under centralized oversight. This helps maintain network-wide synchronization across critical air traffic systems, enabling safer operations, smoother scaling and long-term readiness for future air traffic management requirements.

“We’re proud to support AEROTHAI’s mission of delivering world-class air navigation services that meet users’ requirements in safety, standards and efficiency,” commented Masayuki Kayahara, corporate SVP of the global network division at NEC Corporation. “Through our strong global partnership with Adtran, we provide advanced timing solutions that enhance safety and efficiency for airports in Thailand. NEC remains committed to delivering innovative, secure and scalable solutions and services that empower the aviation industry for a safer, more connected future worldwide.”
